Electronic Similarity Checking (Turnitin) – College of Medicine

Electronic Similarity Checking (Turnitin)

College of Medicine – University Service for Faculty Members and Researchers

Overview

The College of Medicine provides an Electronic Similarity Checking service using Turnitin for research manuscripts, scholarly papers, master’s theses, and doctoral dissertations submitted by faculty members and researchers affiliated with the University.

Upon completion, an official PDF similarity report is issued and sent to the applicant’s email.

Eligibility & Scope

Faculty Researchers Postgraduate Work

Submissions must be academic in nature and belong to the University community. The service covers single, complete documents for originality checking.

Payment Instruction

Applicants shall obtain the official receipt for the similarity-checking fee from the University Presidency – Financial Department.

Please retain a clear scan or photo of the paid receipt; you will attach it to your submission email.

How to Apply

  1. Prepare your manuscript as a single Microsoft Word file (.doc/.docx) — one file only.
  2. Remove the References/Source list (bibliography) from the file before submission.
  3. If the manuscript contains images, please delete them and submit a text-only file.
  4. Email the file and a copy of the payment receipt to the unit’s official address: similarity.check@tu.edu.iq

File & Formatting Requirements

  • One consolidated Word file only (.doc/.docx); do not split across multiple files.
  • Remove images, figures, and non-text media prior to submission.
  • Exclude the reference list from the file to avoid inflating the similarity index.
  • Use standard, selectable text (not scanned images of text).
  • File size should be reasonable to ensure smooth processing.

The finalized similarity report will be issued in PDF and sent to the applicant’s registered email address.

Important Notes

  • The similarity percentage is an indicator; academic judgment remains essential in interpreting matches.
  • Self-plagiarism and reuse of prior work may increase similarity and should be appropriately cited.
  • Turnitin is a registered trademark of its respective owner; the University uses the service for originality checking.
